Six-goal win for u-19s

Sligo Rovers under-19s enjoyed a big win away from home today beating Derry City 6-2.

Returning from the break on the road to table-topping Derry who had won 3-0 on their visit to The Showgrounds earlier in the season.

Mikey Place put Rovers ahead in the 36th minute and the lead was doubled within two minutes.

Despite getting one more back Place went in at half-time with two to his name as it became 3-1 just before the break.

The young Galway attacker got his hat-trick to stretch the lead to thereby scoring again 10 minutes into the second half.

Derry threatened a comeback again on the hour but two further goals sealed it first from Place again to make it four for his afternoon on 68.

With 15 minutes to go Jason Hunt got his second of the game to finish off the win with the sixth of the game for The Bit o’Red and a wonderful away performance.

Next is a return trip to Derry for the Enda McGuill Cup tie against City on Saturday at 2pm.

Rovers: Burke, Frempong (Connolly), Taheny (c), Doherty (McCallion), Borotto, Doyle, Hannon, Hunt, Morley (Birrane), Place, Carney (Connor).
