Bohs v Rovers: 5 Facts
The Bit o’Red had nine players make their debuts for the club in last Saturday’s season opener with Shamrock Rovers. Eight of those played from the start in Tobi Adebayo-Rowling, Michael Leahy, Jimmy Keohane, Craig Roddan, Jordan Richards, Kieran Sadlier, Phil Roberts and Jaanai Gordon all playing from the start with Chris Lyons debuting from the bench.
As well as that Micheal Schlingermann played just his second Rovers game and a first since 2009 and Liam Martin appeared for the first time since the 2013 season. Ciaran Nugent is the only new signing yet to make his debut.
Rovers have lost the opening away game of the league season in the last two years. Last year Drogheda United beat Rovers 3-2 at United Park and the year before Bray Wanderers came out on top 1-0 at The Carlisle Grounds.
Before that Rovers had been getting off to better starts with wins in 2011 (Derry City) and 2013 (Derry City again) with draws in 2010 (Sporting Fingal) and 2012 (Shelbourne).
This will be the 75th time Rovers have gone to Dalymount Park for a league game with Bohs, more than any other venue (Oriel Park is next with 67). Rovers first ever league game at the famous venue was on December 8 1934 and we came away with a 2-1 win as Gerry McDaid scored two.
The 25th game was in 1968 with a 0-0 draw on April 7. On January 6 1995 the Bit o’Red went to Dublin 7 for the 50th time and won 1-0, Eddie Annand scoring one of his 17 that year.
It took Rovers until the seventh game of the 2015 season to get a first league win. It came in an away game against Galway United, 1-0.
This year Rovers will be looking to pick up a first three points much sooner.
Between July 2010 and October 2014 Rovers went 780 minutes without conceding a goal at Dalymount Park.
That led to a nine game unbeaten run, seven in the league and two in the FAI Cup. The first eight of those produced clean sheets for Rovers and six of the nine were wins. The run ended with a 1-0 win for Bohs last July.
