Sligo Rovers vs Finn Harps

SSE Airtricty League

Game 04

Saturday March 19 7:45pm

The Showgrounds

Lowdown

Rovers have sights set on a first win of the season when Finn Harps come to The Showgrounds tonight.

Liam Martin’s goal got the first point of the season against one local rival in Galway United last Monday and now it’s Finn Harps who are the visitors to end the week.

It’s been an eight year wait for fans of the two north-westren teams to see the teams meet.

Opposition

Finn Harps are back in the Premier Division for the first time since 2008. After years of struggle a play-off win against Limerick last November earned them their place back.

Things got off to a great start with a 2-1 home win to start the season against local rivals. That was followed by an Oriel Park defeat to Dundalk.

Former Rovers players Richard Brush and Liam Flatley are now among the Harps ranks along with Gavin Dykes as assistant manager.

Last game

The second stage of the 2010 FAI Cup saw Rovers go to Finn Park hoping to continue the adventure back to the final of the competition having lost in the previous year’s final.

It was the first ever meeting of the team’s in the competition and Alan Keane scored the first ever goal.

Matthew Blinkhorn was fouled in the box on 15 minutes and Keane drilled the ball in from the spot giving the lead.

The First Division side proved tough to breakdown for the remainder and it ended 1-0 to see the Bit o’Red through.

Rovers: Ciaran Kelly; Alan Keane, Gavin Peers, Jim Lauchlan, Iarlfaith Davoren; John Dillon (Eoin Doyle), Gary McCabe (Danny Ventre), Richie Ryan, John Russell; Romauld Boco, Matthew Blinkhorn (Padraig Amond).

Team news

Rovers: Suspended – Phil Roberts

Finn Harps: Injured - Ciaran Coll, Barry Molloy, Sean Houston, Josh Mailey and Michael Rafter.
