Rovers v Harps: Top 3

Ahead of Saturday night’s return of Finn Harps to The Showgrounds, sligorovers.com takes a look back at three recent wins over Harps.

17 October 2008 – SSE Airtricity League – Finn Harps 0 Sligo Rovers 2 (Boco, Doherty)

Two first half goals for Rovers put a serious nail in the coffin of Finn Harps as they headed towards relegation in a game live on TV.

The combination of Raff Cretaro and Rommy Boco made the opening goal. A great run from Tubbercurry’s cretaro and then he found Boco, the King of Benin beat the keeper with a shot to the near post.

Sean Doherty’s second came in unusual circumstances. He first beat full-back Sean Holmes then crossed. The ball looked set to be taken by the keeper but the bend sent it towards goal and over the line before the keeper could catch.

That made it a 100% record for the Bit o’Red in the north-west derbys of 2008.

Rovers: Brush, Coleman, Almeida, Peers, Ventre, Cash (McTiernan), O'Grady (McDaid), Ryan, Doherty, Boco, Cretaro (Feeney).

19 July 2008 – SSE Airtricity League – Sligo Rovers 4 Finn Harps 1 (Peers, Curran, Boco, Cretaro)

Rovers continued with a good run off form by easily seeing off Harps to go five unbeaten in 2008.

Early in the game a well-delivered cross by Sean Doherty was headed by Gavin Peers.

Gary Curran was making his first start of the season and scored against one of his old clubs by shooting in from Chris Butler’s throw into the box.

It wasn’t until the 53rd minute that Rovers got the third when sub Mikey Creane played the ball to Rommy Boco and his shot beat James Gallagher.

Three became four later on when ran in from the wing and beat the keeper again with a low shot.

Rovers: Brush, Cretaro (Noctor), Peers, Almeida, Butler, Curran (Kelly), Ventre, Cash, Doherty, Boco, Judge (Creane).

25 April 2008 – SSE Airtricity League – Finn Harps 0 Sligo Rovers 1 (Almeida)

Rovers went into a first Premier Division game with Finn Harps since March 2000 on another good four-game unbeaten run under Paul Cook.

After Gavin Peers had almost given Rovers the lead on 15 minutes the goal came on 23 from a corner.

Bosnian Fahrudin Kudozovic delivered the set-piece which saw powerful Portuguese centre-back Mauro Almeida head in.

It looked like the score was 2-0 in the second half when Danny Ventre bundled the ball in following a shot by Raff Cretaro that was pushed out by the keeper but the referee disallowed it.

Rovers: Brush, Coleman, Butler, Peers, Almeida, O'Grady, Cash (Murphy), Ventre, Boco (Judge), Kudozovic (Moore), Cretaro.
