Rovers enter the FAI Cup of 2016 in the second round against Cabinteely.

It will be the first time The Bit o’Red have come up against the league’s newest club.

Rovers are five time winners of the cup and last year made it to the quarter-finals where eventual winners Dundalk prevailed.

Opposition

Cabinteely are newcomers to SSE Airtricty League football.

They joined the league last year picking up five wins and finishing bottom, a place they occupy again this year.

On their first entry to the FAI Cup Drogheda United ended their hopes at the first stage with a 3-1 win.

Quotes

Dave Robertson - “It is key for us. This club and the fans have a great affinity with the FAI Cup with the recent success enjoyed in the competition.  We will not take any team lightly. This is a great competition and upsets can happen. We will play the game as with any other and our approach won’t change. We have not yet been beaten at home since the opening day of the season in early March and we want to continue making our home ground a fortress.”
