Mahon in Centenary Shield squad

Sligo Rovers' under-19 defender John Mahon has been named in the Ireland Schools international squad.

The squad was named for the opening Centenary Shield game which is against Wales at Home Farm on Thursday at 2:30pm.

Mahon started last season with the under-17s team and made appearances with the under-19s in the second half of the season.

He has played several times so far with the first team in pre-season games, including the 5-0 win against the Irish Defence Forces.

Mahon, a former Ballisodare United player, has been a regular in the Schools team over the last year most recently playing against Australia in January.

He represents Coola post-primary school.
