Rovers 2-2 Athlone - Report

 
Sligo Rovers completed their pre-season schedule with a 2-2 draw against Athlone Town at The Showgrounds. 
 
The match featured debuts for two of Rovers hottest young talents in John Mahon and Jack Keaney.
 
They started for the frst time at The Showgrounds ad put in highly impressive displays despite their young age.
 
Jonah Ayunga netted his first goal for the club early on. Liam Martin supplying Regan Donelon down the Rovers left with a neat chipped pass. Donelon found the end line before squaring for the incoming Ayunga who supplied a tidy finish past Igors Labuts on 13 minutes.  
 
Colin Fortune's side leveled the game in the lead up to the break courtesy of an own goal.
 
But the Bit O'Red didn't have long to wait to re-open the lead when captain Chris Kenny headed the home side back into the lead shortly after the break. The skipper getting his head to Jack Keaney's corner moments after the restart.  
 
Athlone battled their way back into the game and restored parity once more on 81 when Dragos Sfrijan nodded past Shaun Patton. 
 
Rovers' SSE Airtricity League Premier Division campaign gets underway this Friday, Feb 24th at Markets' Field when we take on Limerick. Kick-off is 7.45pm. 
 
Sligo Rovers: Patton, Adebayo-Rowling, Donelon, Callan McFadden, Mahon, Kenny, Keaney, Martin, Place, Ayunga, Stevens.
