The Sligo Rovers Astro League presented a cheque to the North-West Hospice on Thursday last, to the value of €528.25.
The fundraiser was held before Christmas, in a competition branded as "beat the keeper". The event took place on our Astro Pitch, with all proceeds donated to the North-West Hospice.
Shane Crossan, league co-ordinator, was delighted with the money raised and said the following "The effort the teams in the Sligo Rovers Astro league went to make this event a success, was truly overwhelming. Personally I would like to thank all of the teams who took part and helped raise much needed funds for this wonderful charity".
Shane concluded by saying "this sort of initiative proves that off the pitch everyone unites when called upon. The teams are aware of the constant fundraising needed to keep the Hospice open and were more than willing to help ".
Mary Forte, volunteer co-ordinator for the hospice, accepted the cheque on behalf of the Hospice and said "Its initiatives like this that keeps us going. We are so grateful to Shane and the Rovers Astro league as a whole, as without their hard work, this presentation could not have been made."
Mary concluded by saying " to all of the people that participated in the event and made a donation, we are truly thankful for your generosity and we look forward to working with Shane and the Astro league in the future".
