Sligo Rovers Golf Event extended to two days
Nearly 12 years on from the first Sligo Rovers golfing fundraiser at Co. Sligo Golf Club and €150,000 raised for the Bit o’ Red, the 2014 event is set to become the biggest ever.
For the first time the event will run over two days with approximately 100 teams expected to participate.
The organisation of the Golf Classic is headed by Vincent Nally and he explained that demand has warranted an increase in the scale of the event.
He said: “For the past two years I have had it in mind to extend the event to two days due to demand.
“Once I put the message out earlier in the year about the change, we were inundated by golfers wanting to pre-book.”
It has already attracted a range of personalities for the 2014 event and included in this is recently named PFA Premier League right-back of the year Seamus Coleman.
For the first time, this event will have it’s own brand ambassador and most fitting is the former Rovers star who has lit up the Premier League.
Nally said: “I had contacted Seamus earlier in the year about coming on board. He has been extremely keen since the beginning and is very proud to be supporting us here in Sligo Rovers.”
Over 400 golfers will converge on Co. Sligo Golf Club on the 26th June, with both days running as separate events.
Thursday the 26th runs as an Am-Am event and Friday 27th becoming the Classic Event with each day having a separate prize giving. Golfers may choose which day will suit them to play with only 50 slots available on each day.
The main sponsors Connolly’s Volkswagen and The Sligo Champion are on board, but it is hoped for support from people wishing to become associate sponsors.
“We would like to extend the invitation to anyone who would be interested in becoming an associate sponsor with the option of tee sponsorship at €100. We appreciate any support, either big or small,” Nally concluded.
Entry is set at €200 for this four-person team event.
It represents extremely good value with your round of golf, dinner and entertainment all included in the package.
You may be even lucky enough to be a prize winner.
A VIP weekend with Seamus Coleman at Everton FC, with flights, tickets, accommodation, hospitality and more all inclusive is the top prize.
Gary Cycles, EJ Menswear, The Clarion Hotel and the McWilliam Park Hotel are just some of the associate sponsors already on board offering top prizes.
The scene is now set for all us aspiring golfers hoping to take part in this year’s biggest golfing event.
