Sligo Rovers FC are inviting applicants to express their interest in the role of Head Coach for the Women’s U17 team who will once again participate in the Continental Tyres Women’s U17 National League in 2019.

Through our Women’s Football section, our goal is to be competing at the highest level of women’s football. We will provide a performance centre strategy that encompasses the club wide philosophy for players to develop within a comprehensive and professionalised environment.

The position of Under-17 Women’s Head Coach is key to the ongoing development of our elite underage players and will play a significant role in their development. The position will be on a voluntary basis. The role will provide valuable experience for the successful candidate of working with an elite group of players.

Job Description

• Help club achieve its vision to ‘Build a brand that is associated with excellence on and off the pitch for women’s football, to be considered as an example of excellence and best practice, and one of the major developer of players within the country at underage, and eventually senior level’.
• To assemble squad through talent identification for the beginning of the FAI Women’s U17 season in March 2019.
• The development and nurturing of a pool of elite players to facilitate their current and future success as individuals and as a team.
• Organise, plan and deliver a suitable player development programme in line with the FAI and Sligo Rovers coaching syllabus.
• Uphold the clubs code of conduct and implement club’s vision on and off the pitch.
• Setting high standards for the players both on and off the pitch.
• Create and maintain appropriate communication with players / parents / clubs / leagues and any stakeholders relevant to the team
• To work with the media in any area regarding Sligo Rovers FC.
• Ensure the club adheres to FAI & Women’s National League rules and regulations and competition rules. .
• To ensure that all delivery satisfies the clubs safeguarding and welfare procedures
• The successful candidate will report to the Women’s Football committee within the club. The women’s committee includes members of the club management committee and the Head of Youth Development within the club and is governed by the management committee of Sligo Rovers.

Job Specification:

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas:

Essential Criteria

• A current valid UEFA B Licence holder as a minimum.
• Successful candidate will be subjected to garda vetting clearance.
• Up to date Safeguarding 1 / Child Welfare Certificate.
• An ability to produce verbal and written reports.
• Long-term commitment to working within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Access to both email and phone.
• Experience and enthusiasm for coaching and mentoring elite young players and coaches.

Desirable Criteria

• Administrative and organisational skills.
• Previous experience of coaching in female game.
• Coach mentoring experience.

Abilities / Skills / Knowledge:

• Has the leadership ability to inspire a team to play to their maximum potential.
• Ability to communicate and implement club’s philosophy as head coach.
• Empathy with young players with an ability to inspire.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build meaningful, strong strategic relationships with players, staff and officials.
• Understanding of learning, development and high performance with a proven ability to create optimum and challenging learning environments for players.
• Strong existing relationships within the Women’s football in North-West.
• Must be available for games / training at weekends and evenings.

The Bit O’Red Supporters’ Trust are hosting a ‘Football Only’ table quiz later this month.

The event, not to be missed, takes place on Friday, November 23rd at 9pm at the Belfry.

Table of four costs just €20, with proceeds going towards Sligo Rovers.

Season tickets for 2019 have been finalised, including a new Super Reds offer that is among our best ever and price freezes on all regular priced tickets. A new two adult and two children ticket has also been introduced.

Adults are €220 standard and €300 gold which is reserved seating. Students are €135 and OAP €140. Second level is €70.

The Super Red offer is a ticket for the unchanged price of €50 and the child will receive a complimentary new jersey that will be released for 2019! This is valued at €40 so in effect offering a season ticket for just €10.

All the above are early bird prices and offers are valid until 2pm on Christmas Eve. All categories of season tickets are now on sale in The Showgrounds and will be up until Christmas Eve.

Our club shop will open on Monday December 3^rd in Barton Smiths Sligo, which will also sell 2019 season tickets along with a wide range of new Joma leisure wear for the new season ahead.

With a large number of relative surprises this weekend the numbers remaining in the Last Man Standing competition have been decimated. With 140 players going into the weekend’s action only 24 will progress to Week 8.

Leicester, Arsenal, Chelsea and Bournemouth did the bulk of the damage with West Ham Utd and Watford also gathering a few casualties.

With the international break upon us for the next ten days meaning no premier league fixtures next weekend you can mull a little longer over the decision than usual.

Players Eliminated in Week 7

The Bit O’ Red were presented with a commendation award yesterday, at the 2018 SEE Airtricity League Club Awards which was held in Dublin.

The award in the category “best match day experience” was collected on behalf of the club by Shane Crossan at the awards ceremony.

Sligo Rovers wishes to thank each and every volunteer within the club who helps out on match days in order to provide the best possible match day experience for our supporters.

This award is a testament to the hard work our volunteers do for every home game in The Showgrounds.

We would like to thank the judging panel for nominating and presenting us with such a prestigious award.

An announcement will be made shortly in conjunction with our supplier. Merchandise will be on sale online and in our Christmas store in Barton Smith’s which opens Saturday 3rd December.

Squad:

Manager Liam Buckley has told www.sligorovers.com that the 12 days he has been in the role have, as expected, been consumed by squad-building.

Buckley said: “We made initial contact with the players that were here in 2018 when the season ended. It’s a priority to get the players that we want to stay on under contract. That is being worked on.

“Obviously we’re also looking at players from elsewhere. It’s a busy time, every other club is speaking to players and often it’s the same ones other managers are targeting. We’re speaking to players with the view Sligo Rovers is the right place for them to flourish. The committee have given me the budget and we’re going to give it a good go next year to improve the club’s position.”

Buckley, who will speak to Ocean FM, Sligo Champion and Sligo Weekender in a series of interviews to be published from Friday, Tuesday and Thursday week, also spoke about his backroom plans.

“I already have Dave Campbell with me. He works in the area of helping identify players and opposition analysis. Between Dave and I we have a good idea of the players we want to bring here and knowledge of the current squad.

“In terms of a backroom, I’ve met with some of the underage staff on working with them which is important. I’ll be discussing the overall coaching staff when there’s finalised news.”

Sligo Rovers would like to offer our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the late Willie Bradley who passed away.

Willie scored a total of 26 goals for the club during his 195 appearances between 1949 and 1962.

Our thoughts are with the Bradley family at this sad time.

The Last Man Standing competition continues to plough towards a winner with 31 players biting the dust this week. Watford did the bulk of the damage this week failing to win at Newcastle United.

There are some notable players still standing including first team players Adam Wixted, Mikey Drennan, David Cawley, Jack Keaney and Raff Cretaro all feature in the 139 players still in the mix for the prize money.
