New security measures at Showgrounds

The installation of state of the art CCTV has taken place this week in The Showgrounds.

Power Right Fire, Energy and Security are the leading business in Sligo for fire, energy and security services.

A pan–tilt–zoom camera has been installed by Power Right to monitor three sides of the stadium. It will be used throughout match night.

This measure is being taken to increase safety and care to all fans in the ground and is part of the terms of entering The Showgrounds.

The new CCTV is also a preventive measure to identify those that use pyrotechnics and anyone found doing so will be removed from the ground and banned from future games.

We thank Power Right Fire, Energy and Security for their services and recommend them to our fans.

Bit O Red Wall Proving a big success

‘What’s the story with this wall?’ has been a prominent question over the last ten days with Sligo Rovers supporters since the launch of the new Bit O’ Red Wall.

The black granite tile, which you can have you or your family’s names engraved, will be placed behind The Treacy Avenue Stand outside the player’s tunnel in the ground. Supporters have been quick to snap up their tiles in the last week and demand is growing.

Chief executive of Sligo Rovers, Colin Feehily, said: “The reaction has been really good actually. People are very interested and it’s getting supporters thinking about what they could have on them. So far, the majority of sales have been as Christmas and birthday presents, or families wanting to show their support and having their own family tile.

“We have had supporters in America, Australia and the UK all taking tiles through our online store.

“A couple of people have also got one to remember a loved one who passed on, but it’s not just a ‘memorial wall’, it’s very much a wall for supporters past or present and it’s something that will continue to grow over the years.”

This initiative is another way the club are looking to improve the overall look of The Showgrounds and follows on from the recent outdoor museum launch which took place in October.

Tiles are available from The Showgrounds office, or at Barton Smiths in town where the club have their annual Christmas Shop set up for the festive period.

The club have put together a gift pack in which supporters buying presents can take to give to the person they’ve bought for.

Tiles cost €100 and there is no end date, the wall will be there for many years to come and it really gives Bit O’ Red Supporters the chance to have their own spot in the ground.

Preview: FAI Cup vs Limerick

Sligo Rovers are in action on Saturday night when Limerick visit The Showgrounds in the Extra.ie FAI Cup.

The Bit O’ Red won 8-0 in the first round against Glebe North but narrowly lost to St Patrick’s Athletic, 2-1, in Inchicore.

In team news, Niall Morahan (knee) is out. Johnny Dunleavy and Danny Kane are doubtful with minor knocks and will be tested pre-game.

Liam Buckley said: “We were disappointed last week, especially in the second half. We lifted ourselves this week and this is a very important game. We’re acutely aware that if we win we’re in the quarter-finals so that’s what we are aiming for.

“It might be a Premier Division team against a First Division but upsets happen. We have to make we apply ourselves, make sure our preparation is right which we have tried to do throughout the week.

“Someone will win the Cup and we have to be in it to give ourselves that chance. I’d love to get The Showgrounds crowd behind us, there is a big tradition up here for the Cup.

“That said, that is not going to win us the game. Application, drive, will to win and enthusiasm are imperative and if those are at 100% we’ll give ourselves a good chance.”

International recognition for Rovers WU17 players

Three Sligo Rovers Under 17 women’s players have received international recognition.

Muireann Devaney, Kate O’Dowd and Emer O’Neill have all been selected for the upcoming Women’s Under 16 Development tournament in the Czech Republic.

The camp takes place from May 18th-25th.

Head-coach Darragh Healy congratulated his players: “It’s a great honour for any player to represent their country and I’m delighted to see the girls once again be selected in the squad.

“As a club we take great pride in seeing players playing at this level and it shows the great work that is being done by all coaches. We wish the girls the best of luck and hopefully they enjoy the experience.

“They have been fantastic since I have come in as head-coach this season and I’m not surprised that they have been called into the squad for this training camp.

“Let’s hope we have more girls going on to represent their country in the near future.”

The Bit O’Red girls are enjoying a fine season so far. With five games played they have picked up three victories (including a 5-3 defeat over Athlone on Saturday), one draw and one defeat.

New match night information

As we begin a new home season, the club have some new guidelines to follow on Friday night for the game with St Patrick’s Athletic.

Clubhouse / Refreshments:

The Bit o’ Red Supporters Trust-built clubhouse will be open for the first time. Tea and coffee will be sold in the clubhouse from €2. Alcohol is not available.

The main hospitality building will no longer be open except for club and match sponsors and current volunteers and committee, nor will refreshments be available.

That building will now be a base for our match night team who operate the running of the match event so we ask you to respect this guideline.

The sale of tea and coffee in the clubhouse will go to Sligo Rovers through the work of the Bit O’ Red Supporters Trust. The building has been funded through the Trust and refreshment sales are a means of financing improvements in facilities. Thank you for understanding and enjoy the great new facility which has long been needed and will be bettered as time goes on.

Season tickets / online sales:

All season tickets must be scanned upon entry from now as we use a new technology for the first time this Friday. The club’s ticketing partner will be assisting in the scanning of tickets on Friday. Two turnstiles will be dedicated to doing this.

We ask you for patience and to arrive early on Friday if possible. Given a large crowd is expected and this is a new departure for our volunteer turnstile operators, we ask you to respect the procedure and that entry to the ground may take slightly longer than usual.

Online tickets will be scanned. We have had lots of sales in advance of the game and we encourage you to buy here.

Cash turnstiles will also be open.

Media passes will not be accepted without applying to media@sligorovers.com as a list is operated.

Thanks

And enjoy the game!
