Our 2023 Annual Draw is coming into its final week of sales, with €63,000 now raised so far by our brilliant volunteer sellers in addition to our online sales on srfcdirect.com

The draw takes place at the UCD game next Saturday night at The Showgrounds.

The top prize is €5,000 and will be won by one of our entrants who has purchased a ticket for €10.

There are other top prizes such as a huge €2,500 voucher for West Coast Orthodontics in Sligo Town and a €1,000 voucher for Petstop Discount Warehouse.

Vouchers for stays at The Connaught Hotel, Clayton Hotel Liffey Valley and the Silver Tassey Hotel in Letterkenny are also up for grabs.

Corporate match tickets for a Liverpool home game at Anfield are also on offer which will be a great prize for any football fan.

Our Academy has a total of five games taking place this coming weekend between Saturday and Sunday.

Our Under 19 Men’s have no fixture this weekend following their 5-1 win over Derry City at The Showgrounds last Sunday.

On Saturday, at The Showgrounds, our Under 17 Womens team take on Dundalk at 1pm. The two sides met at Oriel Park at the end of July and played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Our Under 14’s also play Dundalk on Saturday, with kick-off at Oriel Park at 2pm. This is the start of Phase 3 of the Under 14 National League season.

Our Under 17 Men’s team are on the road to face Finn Harps at 2pm. The sides are no strangers having played against eachother twice already in 2023, with Rovers winning away from home back in May in the Under 17 Cup and playing out a 2-2 draw at home in July.

Sunday sees two games take place with our Under 15 side hosting Drogheda United at 1pm at The Sean Fallon Centre. It’s the first meeting of the sides so far this season.

Our Under 19 Women are on the road again on Sunday, following last week’s long journey to Cork is an equally long trip to Ferrycarrig Park to take on Wexford Youths at 3pm.

Last week’s 3-2 win made the journey a fruitful one and the side will be hoping to make it two wins from two in Wexford.

Sligo Rovers go to Tallaght Stadium for a first-time-outing in the Women’s Premier Division against Shamrock Rovers on Saturday, 5,30pm, writes Conall Collier.

When the Rovers clashed in the opening game of the season at The Showgrounds last March, it required a 92^nd minute goal from Aine O’ Gorman to seal a hard-earned 2-1 victory for the Dublin women..

That performance will boost the confidence of the Bit O’Red players despite only one victory so far this season in the WPD, achieved against Cork City, and they will relish the prospects of causing an upset at Tallaght Stadium.

The statistics show that it’s third from the top against second from the bottom and the formbook suggests that a home win is on the cards.

With six games remaining, the Dublin side is nine points behind, with a game in hand, title-chasing Peamount Utd and cannot afford to drop any more points.

The Bit O’Red players have displayed plenty of character and determination this season and will take many positives into the Tallaght assignment, none more so than the first-half performance of the Dublin women last week away to Cork City.

On that occasion, bottom-of-the-table Cork City went in scoreless at the interval after absorbing some intense first-half pressure while the visitors were also forced into a goalkeeper change with Amanda Budden replaced by Summer Lawless due to injury.

The Dublin side adapted hit the front early in the second-half and finished with a four-goal haul, boosted by the introduction of Aine O’Gorman.

The goals scored by Joy Ralph, Abbie Larkin, Stephanie Roche and Melissa O’Kane.

Sligo Rovers strikers Emma Doherty and Casey Howe will be eager for more goals, especially as both were unlucky with a number of efforts against Wexford last Saturday at the Showgrounds before Howe was eventually rewarded for all her hard work in the 86^th minute.

Creating chances hasn’t been a major issue for for the Sligo Rovers women and if they can be more effective in the finishing department, then they certainly have the ability to get a result at Tallaght.

After that, they will focus on another trip to Dublin the following weekend for an FAI Cup quarter-final showdown against Bohemian FC.

Our 2023 Annual Draw will take place in just 10 days, at half-time in our upcoming Men’s game at home to UCD.

The draw has now raised €54,000, with the final week or so of sales about to continue.

Sligo Rovers Academy and Senior Womens player Keeva Flynn is in Portugal with the Republic of Ireland Under 17 Women’s squad this week for three friendlies.

Keeva came on in the second half of last Wednesday’s defeat against Poland before playing 90 minutes in a win over Scotland on Saturday.

Tomorrow, Tuesday sees the third and final game against hosts Portugal before the squad return home.

Keeva is expected to be part of the Senior squad for this Saturday’s SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division tie against Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.

Sligo Rovers goalkeeper Conor Walsh has been included in the Republic of Ireland Under 19 Men’s squad for two upcoming friendlies against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The games take place away from home on Thursday September 7th and Saturday September 9th.

Our Academy teams had a good weekend results wise with four wins from four games.

On Saturday, our Under 17 Men’s side hosted Longford Town at The Sean Fallon Centre and goals from Daire Patton, Alan Hegarty and Niall Kenny were enough to seal a 3-0 win.

That was our only game on Saturday as both our Under 17 Women and Under 14 boys had the weekend off.

Sunday saw three games taking place, the first of which was our Under 15’s away to Dundalk at Oriel Park.

Troy Kelly and Adam Feeney both scored in a 2-0 win.

Our Under 19’s had a big win at home to Derry City at The Showgrounds.

Conor Campbell scored twice along with Rasheed Yeboah’s double and a fifth from Conor Reynolds as we won 5-1.

Rovers Under 19 Women’s side won 3-2 away from home against Cork City at Bishopsgate and the long journey was worthwhile as Rovers ran out 3-2 winners thanks to two goals from Orna Murphy and Katie McGuire’s winner.

Keeva Flynn started and played 90 minutes in the Republic of Ireland Under 17 Women’s win over Scotland in a friendly in Portugal.

Keeva will be part of the squad in tomorrow’s friendly against Portugal at 11am before returning home.

Conor Walsh has been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under 19 Men’s squad for two upcoming friendlies against Bosnia & Herzegovina this week.

Wexford took the Women’s Premier Division (WPD) points home from the Showgrounds tonight with a 4-1 win against a battling Sligo Rovers side in front of the TG4 cameras, writes Conall Collier.

The last time TG4 was at the Showgrounds they got five goals and tonight the teams served up another five-goal feast.

Unfortunately, for the hosts, it didn’t work out as well this time around as Wexford claimed the 4-1 victory, Last season, in front of the cameras, Sligo Rovers edged out the champions Shelbourne on a 3-2 scoreline.

This time around a determined Wexford side made some amends for last week’s FAI Cup exit with a brace of goals in each half for a merited victory.

After scoring 11 last week in the FAI Cup, Sligo Rovers managed a late consolation, but well-deserved, goal as Casey Howe finished to the net in the 86th minute after going close on a number of occasions
throughout the 90 minutes.

Bit O’Red manager Steve Feeney made two changes to the team that won in the FAI Cup last Sunday with Kate Nugent and Lauren Boles replacing Keeva Flynn and Katie Melly.

Nugent came in for Flynn who is away with the Republic of Ireland under-17s in Portugal and she featured from the start in today’s 3-1 victory against Scotland.

A fast-paced first half saw chances at both ends, but Wexford generally dictated the exchanges with the hosts threatening on the break.

Bonnie McKiernan was in action in the opening minute with a smart save to deny Wexford an early goal while at the other end Emma Doherty had a chance, but the danger was cleared.

Wexford continued to press for an opening goal and both Edel Kennedy and Ciara Rossiter went close.

Then in the 19th minute, Kennedy got a vital touch on a cross to open the scoring for Wexford.

Emma Doherty and Jodie Loughrey continued to cause problems for the Wexford rearguard and with Lauren Boles adding a solid midfield presence the Bit O’Red looked like going in at the break only a goal down.

However, in the 46th minute Ciara Rossiter gave Wexford a 2-0 interval advantage with an opportunist goal when she pounced on a loose ball and rifled to the net.

The Wexford women were comfortable for most of the second-half although they struggled at times to deal with the threats of Doherty and Howe for the Bit O’Red.

Howe brought a finger-tip save out of Claudia Keenan in the 71st minute that kept Wexford’s two-goal advantage intact.

Soon after, the crucial third goal arrived for Wexford when Kylie Murphy finished a Ciara Rossiter cross and in the 75th minute Rossiter grabbed another opportunist goal with a speculative lob that went in off the far post.

The home supporters had something to cheer when Howe hit that late consolation goal.

Notable for Wexford was the return of Ellen Molloy in the 66th minute as the visitors did enough to take the points.

New volunteer opportunities have become available within the Media and Communications team at Sligo Rovers Football Club. This role encompasses our League of Ireland Men’s and Women’s Premier Division teams and our Academy.

We are looking to welcome new volunteer Social Media Administrators to the existing team of volunteers that are responsible for the management of the Club’s official social and digital channels and Club website.

The ideal persons will have an interest in some of the following areas – sports, media, communications, social media or digital.

Experience in graphic design would also be advantageous. Those with experience in graphic design but who are not interested in applying to become an administrator can also apply.

The Social Media Administrators will assist with the implementation of the Sligo Rovers social strategy and content calendar and ensure the brand is consistent across all platforms.

The Social Media Administrators will co-ordinate, create, and schedule content for the club’s social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Instagram, YouTube and sligorovers.com, designed to engage and inform supporters.

In addition, the Social Media Administrator will help to support the delivery of match day content, including live updates on social, video content, match reports etc.

The ideal Social Media Administrators will be enthusiastic, confidential, hardworking, and flexible to the requirements of what is a voluntary position. 

The role may be best suited to students, graduates or those looking to gain practical experience in media, digital and communications, with a view to forging a career in the media, sports or communication industries.

The following attributes are desirable but not all are essential: 

• A keen interest in sports.
• Relevant third level course experience in media, digital, sports or communications.
• An interest in the League of Ireland and Sligo Rovers FC
• Familiarity with creating and scheduling content for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and Youtube.
• Available on most match days (including pre- & post-match and evenings) for both home and away games that may fall outside normal working / college hours.
