90th Birthday Celebrations – What You Need To Know

Everyone at Sligo Rovers are very excited ahead of our 90th Birthday celebrations tomorrow evening. We’re expecting a big crowd at the game with even our first citizen, President Michael D Higgins joining us for the festivities.

Everything you need to know about the game and whats happening on the night is detailed below.

 

ADMISSION:

The Main Gates will open early at 6pm. The Away Gate will not be open to the public until 7:15pm to accommodate family activities on the Astro Pitch.

Former Players and their guests are FREE: We are inviting back any former players to the club along with a guest. If you are a former player and we haven’t been able to contact you, there is an open invite for you to come along. Simply RSVP here and you can gain admission via the Online Ticket Turnstile tomorrow evening.

Children U12 are FREE (with a supervising adult): (Strictly speaking it’s one child per adult, but we’re in party mode for the night in The Showgrounds so this will be relaxed somewhat. As long as every child is appropriately supervised we’re looking forward to having them)

If you haven’t received a free ticket from your club or school, simply show this Digitial Coupon: Under 12 Free Ticket on your phone at the turnstile to gain admission to the ground.

Second Level Students: are HALF PRICE at €5: If you haven’t received a concession ticket from your school or club, simply download and show this Digital Coupon: Under 18 €5 Concession Ticket on your phone at the turnstile to gain admission to the ground for €5 instead of the normal €10.

All others tickets will be at normal prices: Adults: €15 / Students & Concessions: €10

As a large crowd is expected it is advised to come early to the game.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS PLANNED

Family Fun Day (6pm – 7pm): Our Underage Players will lead fun football games on the Astro Turf pitch with face painting, Benny the Bull, Disney mascots & free popcorn (before 7pm).

There will be some exciting freebies for fans of all ages including vouchers for Funny Bones, a copy of FIFA 19 and a meal for 2 in Fiddlers Creek, Sligo

Special 90th Anniversary Retro Jersey: The club have issued a limited edition retro jersey with red and white stripes. This will be worn by the players on the night. Orders placed last month will be available for collection on the night. The jersey will not be available for sale on the night.

Bumper Souvenir Match Programme: An extra large match programme packed with features from contributors including Jim Grey, Conall Collier, Anthony Kilfeather, Joe Molloy, Aidan Mannion, Michael Melly, David Goulden, Jessica Farry, Kevin Colreavy, John Doyle, Stephen McLoughlin and Leo Gray. This will be available inside the ground for €5

President’s Visit: The current President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, will attend the game as a guest of the club. He will be presented with a copy of the complete history of the club “A History of Sligo Rovers 1928-2016” prior to kick off by the officers of the club. President Higgins, a long time League of Ireland fan, will be staying for the entire game.

90 Balloons for 90 Years: There will be a release of 90 Red & White balloons to celebrate each year of the club’s history. The underage players of the club will be involved in this prior to kick off.

Half Time Presentation: RTE’s Tommy Gorman will bring us on a brief look back over the history of the club with a representative of each of the nine decades that the club has been in existence. This will feature a number of the former players who have been invited back to the club including Joey Ndo, Conor O’Grady, Gavin Dykes, Tony Fagan, Paul Fielding, Paul ‘Ski’ McGee, Chris Rutherford, Louis Chapman, William Burns, Paddy ‘Monty’ Monaghan (represented by his son Eugene) & Alfie McLynn (represented by his grandson, former player Ross McLynn).

Kilglass / Enniscrone United will be providing the ball boys and the half time games.
