Big Wynne for Joe as he lands Rovers lotto jackpot

Joe Wynne from Coolaney was the latest big winner in the Sligo Rovers lotto as he scooped a recent jackpot of €9650.

When he was contacted by Nigel Collery to say that his lucky numbers of 2, 4, 11, and 19 had come out in the draw, he could hardly believe his luck.

“I have been a Rovers supporter all my life, and for much of that time I have been supporting all their fundraisers through my connection with the Collerys.

“I used to enjoy calling into the shop in Beltra to have a chat with Henry Collery and buy a Rovers lotto ticket, and that tradition has continued on with his son Nigel, another dedicated Rovers supporter.”

Joe has the distinction of having played in the Showgrounds, togging out for ‘The Mill Ballisodare’ in a Junior Cup game in the late 1950s.

He doesn’t remember too much about the game apart from the fact the legendary Nancy Callaghan was in attendance.  Joe recalls the many outstanding local players from that time, including Jimmy Burnside, Bob Monds and Ned Callaghan, and has special memories of seeing them perform in the local MacArthur Cup competition.

Lotto Administrator Frank Beirne congratulated Joe on his win, and said this latest jackpot payout confirms the status of the Sligo Rovers lotto as the most popular local lottery in the region and a major source of funding for the Club.

“While many of our lotto agents are still active during the Covid pandemic, the vast majority of lottery tickets are now purchased online. It’s a very easy and quick way to support the Rovers, tickets can be bought through the club website, and every week we have people on-line from all over the world supporting the draw.

“In the current climate we have a reduced crew and we convene in a safe, socially distanced manner every Monday evening for the weekly draw.”

Joining Frank to assist with the draw are Shane Crossan, Lorraine Beirne, Noel Scott and Pat Wallace.
