We are thrilled to announce the signing of Jodie Loughrey from Donegal Women ahead of the 2023 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division season.
Jodie joins her older sister Keri in signing for Steve Feeney’s side today.
The 16-year-old, who is from Buncrana in County Donegal is an Irish International at both Under 16 and 17 level and was voted the country’s Player of The Year last year.
Loughrey was part of the Bit O’ Red side in Saturday’s friendly against Athlone Town at The Sean Fallon Centre.
Manager Steve Feeney is delighted to secure Jodie’s signature:
‘’Jodie is a top talent and another player we have been keen to get in here at Sligo Rovers.
‘’She will add a different dimension to our attack and we are all really excited to watch her this year.
‘’Jodie and her sister are key signings for us and it’s important that we attract players from the Northwest region as a whole, being the only club in the region to have a side playing in the Women’s Premier Division.’’
The talented midfielder could make her competitive debut in our opening fixture against Shamrock Rovers at The Showgrounds on Saturday, March 4th.
Loughrey is delighted to have signed for Rovers:
‘’I am really excited to be joining the club today. I am looking forward to being involved in the squad as we play in the Women’s Premier Division this season, which was a big attraction for me.
‘’I want to improve as a player and develop and I feel I will be able to do that here at Sligo Rovers.
‘’I am really enjoying training so far and can’t wait to get going’’.
Next up for Rovers is a trip to Athlone Town on Saturday in our next pre-season friendly.
